Description
------------------
This script has the capacity to harvest any number of email
addresses of only webmasters. If used properly it will target
the audience to your needs PERFECTLY. Meaning it can make 100%
totally targetted lists for any product or service you offer to
webmasters.
Foreword
------------------
I have packaged this in a way to make sure that you
cannot easily mess installation up. If you follow the
directions to the letter, you should have no problems
at all during installation. If you do not follow the steps
as I have outlined them, then you will. This is not a basic
program in the effect that the data structure is huge, please
follow directions properly.
Installation
------------------
1. Plan your installation ahead of time. Choose where to install
this and determine where the following items are on your
server.
a) URL to the script. (http://domain.com/cgi-bin/qm/quickmarket.cgi)
*note* the directory the
script runs in has to be named qm.
b) Database Directory. (/home/user/cgi-bin/qm/dbase)
*note* directory must be
named dbase
c) Output Directory. (/home/user/cgi-bin/qm/output)
*note* directory must be
named output
d) Formletter Templates. (/home/user/cgi-bin/qm/letters)
*note* directory must be
named letters
e) Location of sendmail. (/usr/sbin/sendmail)
2. Upload the install.tar.gz file to your server. Where you upload
it is
very important, so pay attention please.
If you chose, as an example, /home/user/cgi-bin/qm as
your scripts main
directory, you would upload the file to: /home/user/cgi-bin
When we unpack the install.tar.gz file it will create
a directory named
qm automatically. It will also unpack all other directories
and files it
needs automatically.
3. Unpacking the install archive.
a) using an FTP client, upload install.tar.gz to your server
in the proper
location as previously described above.
b) telnet into your server and change directory to where
you uploaded the
install.tar.gz file.
c) issue the following commands:
gunzip install.tar.gz
tar -vxf install.tar
d) now that we have an unpacked archive, we need to set
some permissions
properly. issue the following commands:
chmod 777 qm
chmod 777 qm/dbase
chmod 755 qm/letters
chmod 777 qm/output
chmod 755 qm/dbase/cats
chmod 777 qm/letters/sample1.txt
chmod 777 qm/letters/sample2.txt
chmod 755 qm/Configs.pm
chmod 755 qm/quickmarket.cgi
e) now we have all permisions set properly, let's
move on to configuration.
download the qm/Configs.pm file
in ASCII mode in your FTP client.
open it in a text editor and change
the config options as outlined earlier.
save the file as plain text.
f) using FTP once again in ASCII mode only, upload
Configs.pm and overwrite
the one on your server.
4. if you followed all instructions, you should now have a working script.
open your web browser and point it at where you installed
the script.

Troubleshooting
----------------------
If the script refuses to work, go back and double check your paths in
the
Configs.pm file you modified. If all is well in the config file, double
check
all permissions. These are the 2 Largest problems encountered.
If all permissions are correct then we have a problem and you should
ask your
admin if the server has a standard perl module called, IO::Socket.
If that is installed as it should be on any unix server by default,
the call
us for free help getting it right and working for you.
Usage
---------------------
It really doesnt get much easier than this.
Open your web browser and point it at the script.
You will first be at a page that allows you to very carefully select
categories to harvest from that best fit your needs. Make your choices
and press the button to go forward.
This takes you to a page outlining what you have previously chosen,
and
once you affirm that you want these categories harvested, you press
a
button to go forward.
Now the script starts doing it's thing harvesting emails. This can take
a
very LONG time, depending on how many categories you have chosen.
When the script is done harvesting all your categories, it tells you
so, as
well as how many emails were collected, and gives you a link to go
to the
mailer part of the script.
Once at the mailer part of the script, you can enter a from address,
a subject,
and a message, for the emails to all addresses collected by the script.
You will
also notice that you can select any or all of previously collected
email lists to
mail out to.
Now there is one added feature that you may fall in love with. It is
the ability
to automatically import a "form letter" into the emailer.
Form letters are plain text files you have created, that can be used
for the body
of the emails. So if you are repeatedly mailing the same letter out,
you can make
it in any text editor and upload it in ASCII mode to the qm/letters/
directory.
Make sure you name it appropriatly so you know what it is later.
There is an added variable you can use in the body of any email. This
is %url%
and it is the web address of a website associated with the email address
being
mailed. The example form letters I have included detail this feature.
